Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy (PT) for young children is a specialized treatment designed to help them develop their gross motor skills, improve muscle strength, and enhance balance and coordination. It can be particularly beneficial for children with developmental delays or physical challenges.

Common Indicators for Physical Therapy:

Parents should consider physical Therapy if they notice any of the following in their child:

  1. Weak muscle tone: Difficulty maintaining positions like sitting or crawling. Limited movement: Resistance to activities like tummy time or general play.
  2. Delayed milestones: Not reaching typical developmental milestones like rolling over, crawling, or walking by expected ages.
  3. Tightness in muscles or joints: Difficulty in moving legs or arms freely.
  4. Shifts in hand preference: Consistently favoring one hand over the other at an early age.

Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy (OT) for young children is a therapeutic approach aimed at helping them develop the skills needed for daily activities and participation in play, school, and social interactions. OT focuses on enhancing a child’s fine motor skills, sensory processing, self-care abilities, and overall independence.

Common indicators for Occupational Therapy:

  1. Delays in meeting developmental milestones related to fine motor skills
  2. Difficulty grasping objects or manipulating toys
  3. Inability to isolate one finger; tends to use the full hand
  4. Difficulty holding up a spoon or bottle
  5. Toe walking
  6. Sensory issues
  7. Trouble completing self-care tasks, such as dressing or eating
  8. Being overly sensitive to textures or sounds.
Speech therapy

Speech therapists can focus on various areas, including speech production, language comprehension, and social communication. Speech therapists work with children to improve their ability to express themselves verbally and understand others.

Common indicators for Speech Therapy (SLP):

  1. Not responding to their name by 6 months
  2. Not saying any words by their first birthday
  3. Not combining words by age
  4. Difficulty making their needs known or having trouble with articulation
  5. Limited eye contact or trouble engaging with others
  6. Speech therapists can assist with feeding therapy for children with conditions such as cleft palate.
Special Instruction Teachers

Special instructor teachers help children with developmental delays or disabilities by creating personalized learning plans. They focus on teaching important skills like playing, interacting, gaining independence, and following directions.

Common indicators for Special Instruction:

  1. Finding it hard to understand or listen to simple instructions from grown-ups.
  2. Has a hard time playing with other kids or joining in group activities.
  3. Likes to see how things are done before trying them.
  4. Has a hard time paying attention or staying focused
  5. Trouble doing things for themselves, like getting dressed or brushing teeth.
  6. Difficulty using toys the right way or playing with them properly.
  7. Gets upset or confused when it’s time to switch activities or move to a new place.
ABA Therapy

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy is a scientifically validated approach primarily used to assist individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and other developmental conditions. It focuses on understanding and improving specific behaviors through positive reinforcement and various techniques. Many children with ASD may also require additional therapies, such as physical Therapy (PT), occupational Therapy (OT), speech therapy, and specialized instruction. We have dedicated therapists who specialize in ABA and connect well with neurodiverse children to help them grow and progress.
